Create Zones

Zones are polygons (or polylines) that define a specific geographic location on the map. When assets enter or exit zones, events are created that can be used to trigger alerts. Zones can also be used to set speed limits for certain geographic areas.

Depending on what you want to call it, Location, Zone, Geo-Fence they are all one in the same...note that the use of these Geo-Fence's are applicable to the relevant asset type. Most aviation customer will create goe-fences of the Airports or other know landing facilities, land based customers will use them for depots or delivery/pickup point, and Marine users would use ports and other sea land marks. All of the geofences can be linked to a notification under the alerts tab to create the event and record the details of entry/exit, and can also be setup to email and/or sms this event in realtime to selected users/groups. See Notifciations/Alert for more on this.

Zone Types

There are four different types of zones:

  • Location

A blue location is any place of interest that can be marked on the map. Use these for customer locations and depots. When an asset enters a location zone, the address will be changed to the name of the zone.

  • No Go

A red No-Go zone is an area which you do not want an asset to enter. Draw it around dangerous areas and you will be notified via an event and optional alert when an asset enters the zone.

  • Keep In

A green keep in zone is one that you do not want an asset to leave. Draw it around the operational area of your assets and you'll be notified via an event and optional alert when an asset leaves the zone.

  • Route

A route is a special type of keep-in. It is a line (instead of a polygon) that generates events when an asset gets near it. You can also assign routes to assets to be notified when they leave predetermined routes. These are discussed here.

Creating Zones

Zones can be created on the Asset Overview screen, by choosing the + sign on the map:

Choose the type of zone you want to create. Create the zone by clicking on the corners of the zone you want to create. When you have completed the zone, double-click on the last point. The zone becomes a darker colour:

Complete the table at the bottom of the screen (Use a descriptive Name for the Location), and click Save to complete the zone.

NOTE: Proximity warnings are measured from the centre of the zone created, extending outwards in a circular shape.

Editing Zones

Zones can be edited on the Asset Overview screen, by choosing the zone on the map. Double click the zone and edit the settings as required.

Alternatively, zones are available under the Administration page, in a listed format:

Choose the zone, and click Edit to amend any settings in the zone:
